Do athletes have to race in their age group?
Yes, there is age validation during the registration process. To be in a relay, ideally athletes will be in the same age group. If they are not, they will complete the race distance of the youngest athlete on the relay team. For the Adult / Child relay, the adult may complete either the swim OR run for the youth athlete. But not the bike portion. The Adult / Child wave will go last. Adults will swim 200m and run 3k.
Does my child need a USAT license to race?
Yes, it is required. USA Triathlon just launched a new Youth and Junior Premier membership, that is valid from the date of purchase until the athlete's 18th birthday. Read more about the Premier Membership here.
